Both ENDS supports the work of environmental organisations, primarily
in the so-called South (developing countries) and the Central and
Eastern European (CEE) countries.
The core of our activities is in making connections, between South
and North, environment and development, and between different sectors
of society.
We work with non-governmental organisations (NGOs), community-based
organisations (CBOs) and issue-related coalitions or networks. We
support inspiring, people-oriented examples of sustainable development.
Viable alternatives to often damaging mainstream approaches.
We produce funding guides, research and lobby documents, support campaigns
and help build coalitions. Our service
desk offers information packs on environmental topics, helps
fund-seeking organisations in locating donors, and assists in identifying
the right expertise or partner.
Many activities are organized around themes. The main areas of work are: Sustainable
Land Use and Water Management, and International Capital Flows. We
support organisations undertaking environment projects through research,
lobby, networking and capacity-building.
We particularly support environmental initiatives which - born locally
- can have an impact globally. Viable alternatives capable of inspiring
others, rooted in local peoples’ knowledge and managed bottom-up.
Alternatives which can compete with - or even emulate - mainstream
projects. Communicating about these initiatives - collected in the
interactive Encyclopedia of Sustainability
- is central to Both ENDS’ work.
